Set along the shores of the Bosphorus, Istanbul Modern — inaugurated in 2023 — is Turkey’s first museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop for the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, the project is part of the city’s broader waterfront transformation. What was once industrial port infrastructure has been reimagined as an architecture deeply connected to the water.

The rooftop, entirely veiled in a mirror-like sheet of water, seems to extend the Bosphorus into a tranquil, almost meditative horizon. Between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara, between East and West, water becomes both a threshold and a connection.
It reflects more than it reveals. It connects more than it divides.
