The "lécherettes" fountains pay tribute to the historic locality that supplied the city’s first fountain in 1793, a nod to local heritage. As for the "puits soufflants" (breathing wells), located in front of the new town hall, they draw inspiration from the barometer well on Rue Virginio Malnati, a fascinating geological phenomenon. This well, approximately 23 meters deep, functions as a natural barometer: air circulates differently depending on atmospheric conditions. When the well draws in air, it signals fair weather, while when it expels air, it foretells stormy conditions, a phenomenon as surprising as it is poetic.
The new fountains in Meyrin’s Cœur de Cité blend technical innovation, history, and aesthetics to create a public space where water becomes memory, refreshment, and conviviality.
