Probably the most famous water mirror in the world. This project is the story of an encounter between a visionary architect, an exceptional site, and a fountain expert.

As the centerpiece of the Garonne riverbanks’ redevelopment led by Michel Corajoud, this project is part of a broader ambition: to reconcile the city with its river, while offering Bordeaux and visitors a unique space of relaxation and wonder in the world. The Miroir d’Eau embodies a new way of staging water in public spaces. Inspired by the natural floods of St. Mark’s Square in Venice, it transforms this ephemeral phenomenon into an interactive urban experience. The idea is simple yet revolutionary: over 3,450 m², a thin 2-centimeter layer of water unfolds and recedes in a precise ballet, creating a giant mirror that reflects the facades of the Palais Gabriel, the sky, and passersby.

We have often wondered about the reasons for its tremendous success. There is probably no single answer. Above all, the Miroir d’Eau is a space of freedom that reflects back to each person their own gaze, emotions, and dreams.
