Since 2022, the museum has offered a new play area for children, where they can learn while having fun and cooling off. A way to remind us that water, the source of life, is also a source of knowledge and pleasure. Designed by the architects at Taylor Cullity Lethlean, the Qatar Total Energies Playground is intended to inspire children and encourage them to discover Qatar’s sustainability efforts, while helping them better understand topics such as solar energy, renewable energies, electricity, liquefied natural gas, carbon capture and storage.

Organized into 15 distinct zones, or "pods", this project allows children to learn about the entire energy cycle, from the formation of natural resources, through oil and gas exploration, to energy production and consumption. Each of the 15 zones feature interactive elements so that children can discover the science and technology behind energy. Water plays a central role here: it illustrates all the stages, from extraction to storage and transport. Using levers and their own strength, children work as a team to operate pumps and circulate water through pipes and machinery. The water extracted in one pod then flows into the next via connecting pipes, linking each step of the process. A playful and sensory approach that encourages children to touch, handle, and understand.
