Gaston Bachelard once said that water is the best friend of colors: it dies of thirst and drinks in the images of its surroundings. For our Grove fountain project on Grand Cayman Island, we placed color at the heart of our design. The paving becomes a chromatic map of the island’s flora and fauna, where every shade and nuance captures the vibrant essence of the corals, tropical fish, and lush landscapes, transforming the water into a living mirror of local biodiversity.
The project draws inspiration from the work of a local photographer, from whose images we extracted 37 distinct colors: the colors of Cayman. Each color tells a story of a unique ecosystem inhabited by many endemic plants and species, such as the Vanilla Orchid, the Cayman Brac Parrot, and the Cassiopea jellyfish.
